National PTA® has recognized Stevens Forest Elementary School and Stevens Forest Elementary PTA as a National PTA School of Excellence for the second consecutive two-year period for their achievement in building effective family-school partnerships. Stevens Forest was the only Maryland School to earn this distinction during the 2014-2016 cycle, and remains the only school in Howard County and one of four across Maryland to earn the distinction in 2016-2018. We are proud to say that we also have been recognized  as a National PTA School of Excellence for the 2019-2021.

Our PTA meetings will be held over Zoom. These meetings are an opportunity for our parents and guardians to get to know our Principal, Dr. Joy Smith, our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Katie Carter, and other members of our school community. More importantly, it's your chance to ask questions, learn about what is happening in our school and the Oakland Mills Community, and have YOUR voice heard.

We are always happy to respond to any questions. If we don't know the answer, we will connect you with the person at the school or in the county who can answer. You can always contact our President, Eric Garland, at sfesbobcatspta@gmail.com.

Our Mission

As part of the Maryland PTA, our overall purpose is to "make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children."

The Stevens Forest Elementary PTA supports the broader PTA mission by:
  • Sponsoring programs and events that build community and enrich our students' educational experiences;
  • Supporting our teachers and staff through donations, volunteering, and hospitality;
  • Advocating at the county and state level on behalf of the specific needs facing our students.
We embrace the values established by the National PTA:
  • Collaboration: We work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations to broaden and enhance our ability to serve and advocate for all children and families.
  • Commitment: We are dedicated to children’s educational success, health, and well-being through strong family and community engagement, while remaining accountable to the principles upon which our association was founded.
  • Diversity: We acknowledge the potential of everyone without regard, including but not limited to: age, culture, economic status, educational background, ethnicity, gender, geographic location, legal status, marital status, mental ability, national origin, organizational position, parental status, physical ability, political philosophy, race, religion, sexual orientation, and work experience.
  • Respect: We value the individual contributions of members, employees, volunteers, and partners as we work collaboratively to achieve our association’s goals.
  • Accountability: All members, employees, volunteers, and partners have a shared responsibility to align their efforts toward the achievement of our association’s strategic initiatives.
